I was born in Wolverhampton but I’m not one to hold a grudge . Grew up in Nenagh Co Tipp---Mecca for music in the midlands .
At eighteen I joined local band ‘The Swing College’ on vocals and later (when they found out that I couldn’t sing) tenor sax . Playing trad jazz and leaning towards pop we got to do the warm-up for most of the touring English outfits .
Moved to Oxford and then to London where I started listening to some serious bands--Edgar Broughton , King Crimson and -- light years ahead of everyone else the ‘ Floyd’. I saw them at a free concert in Hyde Park and again at Crystal Palace where it rained for most of the time but nobody seemed to mind .
I did the pub scene in London solo for a few years including a two and a half year residency in ‘The Three Tuns’ Marble Arch .‘The pub beside Healy’s car’ if you asked for directions . Played with various bands around Ireland on vocals , bass and saxes or accoustic .
The last few years I’ve been writing and recording my own ’stuff’ out of which three CDs escaped ---some blues some bluegrass and some just pure shite .
My favourite Pink Floyd piece at the moment is ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond ’.
I use a Martin D28 accoustic through a Behringer Ultracoustic 1000. I’ve had the ‘Buffet’ tenor sax for more years than I care to remember and if I could remember I wouldn’t admit it . I pawned my first sax ( a Selmer) in Liverpool a long time ago for the price of tea and----- but that’s rock and roll or so they tell me . At the moment I’m using a Berglarsen steel mouthpiece --100 bore . An AKG condensor ‘bug’ does most of the work .
